In the white space of a blank page lies the unlimited potential for creation. The average German life spans 29,269.35 days.
What will you create?
Sometimes we set out on a journey with anticipation. We expect that life is going to be grand. Other times we greet the path with anxiety, fearing that our days will be challenging and difficult. Usually we get what we expect.
Life can seem like such a great mystery. It can seem unfair. It can also be the most magical experience we could ever hope to encounter.
I made this piece for a show in Hanover Germany with help from ART-IG and my friend Anna Grunneman. As a result, I’ve decided to focus my attention on the Germans for this piece.
Here’s what I know: the average German (and North American life) lasts about 29 265.35 days.
That is 29 265 days or so to wake up with a clean slate. Each day is a new opportunity for a fresh start. We can carry the garbage from yesterday if we choose. We can also attempt to control the future with worry and thought. Or we can choose to see each day as a blank piece of white paper, an embodiment of the unlimited creative potential. We can translate this presence into moments and breaths. In each instant we can choose to empower ourselves by opening instead of closing, by allowing ourselves to feel vulnerable, and in the midst of the great unknowable future recognize that we have unlimited creative potential. What will you choose?
